The best honeymoon destination is the one that matches your season, your budget and your idea of romance. The Maldives and Bora Bora suit couples who want privacy on the water. Italy and Greece suit couples who love food, history and scenery. Mexico and the Caribbean are ideal for an easy, relaxing trip right after the wedding.
We have helped couples across Los Angeles plan honeymoons since 2004, and the best ones start with a simple conversation about how you two actually like to travel.
If you want to do absolutely nothing
Choose an overwater villa in the Maldives or a beach resort in the Caribbean. The Maldives is a long journey from Los Angeles, usually with one or more connections, so allow at least eight or nine nights. For a shorter flight, adults-only resorts in Cancun, the Riviera Maya or Jamaica give you a beach, a pool and nothing to plan.
If you want romance and culture
Italy is hard to beat. Combine Rome with the Amalfi Coast or Venice, and enjoy long dinners and slow mornings. Greece pairs Athens with an island such as Santorini or Milos. Both are at their best from May through June and in September, when it is warm but less crowded than peak summer.
If you want adventure
Try Japan for food and culture, Bali for temples and rice terraces, or Costa Rica for rainforest and wildlife. Each offers a very different kind of romance and plenty of shared memories.
If you are thinking of Armenia
For many of the couples we work with, a honeymoon in Armenia or a stop on the way there is a meaningful choice. Yerevan’s cafes, the wineries of Areni and the monasteries in the mountains make a lovely, unusual trip. We can combine it with a European stop along the way.
Check the season first
Many dream destinations have a wet season or hurricane season. If your wedding date is fixed, choose your honeymoon around that date rather than falling in love with a place that will be rainy when you arrive.
Budget for the experience
Set your total budget, then spend on what you will remember. A better room may matter more on a beach week, while on a touring trip you may prefer one great private experience. Honeymoon registries can also help with the extras.

When should we book our honeymoon?
Ideally six to twelve months before your wedding, particularly if you are traveling in a peak season or want a specific resort.
